Titans Girls 14U AAA seek to defend title while 16U AAA look to win it in MAWHA playoffs this weekend

The New Jersey Titans girls’ 14U AAA team looks to defend its 2018-19 title while the 16U AAA team seeks to win a championship at this weekend’s Mid-Atlantic Woman’s Hockey Association’s (MAWHA) playoffs that begin on Friday, February 28 at Hatfield Ice Rink in Colmar, PA.

The 14U-AAA & 16U-AAA division will be a three-team single elimination round robin format that begins on Saturday, February 29 and the championship games will be held on Sunday, March 1.

The 14U AAA team this year finished with an overall record of 29-10-4 record and had a 4-1-3 MAWHA record. They enter the playoffs as the number two seed, and they will play the third seed New Jersey Colonials on Saturday at 3:50pm. The winner advances to play the top seed Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Sunday at 11:20am.

They have a 4 – 1 record against the Colonials and have tied the Jr. Flyers three times this season.

The returners from last season’s championship team include: Ani Kozak (F), Charlie Rauch (F), Jocelyn Acosta (F), Kate Morey (F), Abby Hehl (D), Adriana Urban (D) and Caroline Bergin (F).

The new comers to the team are: Josie Difeo (F and played U14 T2 Titans previous season), Morgan Mosely (F and played U14 T2 Titans previous season), Alyse Borras (F and played U14 T2 Titans previous season), Petyon Liebross (F), Jessica Smart (F), Noemi Sofia Martinez (G), Olivia Cimorelli (G), Gillian Kibbey (D) and Abby Tattersall (D).

The 14U AAA team enters this weekend’s playoffs ranked eighth  in the country (My Hockey Rankings).

The 16U AAA team finished with an overall record of 13-17-3 and had a 1-6-1 MAWHA record. They enter the playoffs as the number three seed and will play the second seed New Jersey Colonials at 2:25pm on Saturday. The winner will face the Jr. Flyers at 11:35am on Sunday for the championship.

The Titans went 1-2-1 against the Colonials and 0 – 4 against the Jr. Flyers during the season.  

The 2003 forwards are Katie Bahrs, Elisabeth Clements, Cheyenne Wilk and Aspen Tabor. The 2004 forwards are Molly Riggi, Adriana Crepaldi, Noelle Turek, Michelle McCabe and Tommi Nash. The 2003 defensemen are Anna Clements and Devan Morey. The 2004 defensemen are Holly Kiernan, Emma Conroy, Kaitlyn Cielo (injured) and Aeryn Freemna (injured). The team’s netminders are Maggie Smith (’03) and Layla Shaffer (’04). The ‘04s on the 16U AAA 2019-2020 team won MAWHA U14 T1 and U14 T1 districts.

“We are all very excited about the girls 14’s accomplishment as they prepare to defend their MAWHA playoff championship from the 2018-19 season” stated Titans President George Haviland. “This group of athletes are an exceptional group of hockey players led by a phenomenal staff. Good luck girls. This is the first road to the national championship” added Haviland.
